Lower back pain, otherwise known as lumbago, is a very common musculoskeletal disorder that affects 80% of people at least once in their lifetime. Lower back pain is the most common cause of disabilities related to jobs and missed work time. The only neurological ailment more common than lower back pain is the headache. Lower back pain may be chronic, subacute or acute in it’s duration. The symptoms of lower back pain usually show significant improvement in a few weeks with proper care.

Lower back pain often results from sprains or strains in the muscles or soft tissues, or problems with spinal disks. Some lower back pain conditions simply require the patient to rest and allow the injury to heal, while others may require surgery to fix the problem. Other conditions may not be fixable at all, and the only recourse being to manage symptoms as best as possible.
